The entire fenced ballfield was filled with people. I saw one estimate for the three day crowd at 80,000. I'm not sure of that number but we got a standing ovation from all those in attendance at that time and it was electric. My guess is 10,000 - 20,000. It was the only time we received that kind of response but it still is vivid in my mind. I have a poster put out by the promoters hanging in my practice space along with some photos taken by a friend. Mother Ball wasn't well known but many a passing friend stopped bye the duplex on San Carlos St between 10th and 11th street appreciated our music. We also played a couple of times on the stage that was set up in the area where the San Jose public library now sits. Local bands played there each weekend during the summer of 1968 or 69.Jim Wilcoxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11935933063083274939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-54654339001948285072024-01-27T09:44:22.121-08:002024-01-27T09:44:22.121-08:00Lots of history of Bay Area and Tahoe music in tha...Lots of history of Bay Area and Tahoe music in that book. June Millington, the guitarist, talks a lot about playing the Legion Hall, Crystal Ship, and ski resorts in 1966 - 68 in her book, including playing with Sly and seeing the Dead at Tahoe. She could add a lot to the story, and is pretty accessible. You can probably reach her through her website (IMA dot Org) as she is active online and talks a lot about the her and the band's history. We were there for Hendrix, not Havens even though we sat through his set after. It was magic. He was showing off like mad but no guitar destruction.
