Of the later performances Bo Diddley for three days is the most interesting whilst Maximum Speed Limit get three days supporting the Coasters and Cal Tjader makes a number of appearances. Regardless, it quickly headed down the dance venue with hostesses helping lounge lizards introduce themselves to airline stewardesses. Dance auditions were held Thursdays and dance contests Fridays. Auditions for comedians and dancers were held Sundays and speghetti was free on Sundays. It became one of the major dance hotspots in the city for a couple of years. The bands were retained on a minimum one week deal and the likes of Benedict Arnold and The Traitors, Abel and The Prophets & the Flaming Tee's with Marcos Malone on Conga played dance music for the attendees. Towards the end the house band was Rick Stevens and His Group (which regularly changed name). Rick Stevens would move on to Tower of Power before he entered the State Prison System for 36 years.Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09212506413302199102noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-31308486890288062202018-09-26T00:47:15.663-07:002018-09-26T00:47:15.663-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.browns shoreditchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14271648651180858080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-57309178489223355082018-08-10T02:38:14.667-07:002018-08-10T02:38:14.667-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Thehornsshoreditchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18438113231903678553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-35007758238454532472016-10-23T11:15:58.598-07:002016-10-23T11:15:58.598-07:00Hi Carol,

David did not know Jack Ruby, but his ex-wife did work at Ruby's club in Dallas long before she met David. Ruby had no connection whatsoever to any of David's nightclubs. Great place and though I wasn't 21 when he owned it, they allowed minors 18-20 years old in but we had to sit in a separate section that didn't serve liquor.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03746445457230338148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-83173557751744457282012-03-31T10:29:04.076-07:002012-03-31T10:29:04.076-07:00This is a fascinating post, thanks for it. He used to DJ and MC at the Rock Garden. Gerry was from the UK and variously a songwriter, producer and studio owner.

He remembered introducing The Dead, Springfield, Love, Sly Stone and Big Brother.

He recalls the club was only open for about 7 weeks as it wasn't making any money.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-92175466002121247862010-01-19T19:48:28.754-08:002010-01-19T19:48:28.754-08:00Another fine post!

On audience tapes like this, he almost sounds like a horn-player more than a guitarist. When his mother went to see the band in March '67, the first thing she asked him was, 'How do you get the guitar to sound like a horn like that?'"

It would be interesting to know if she saw the Dead jam with Charles Lloyd's group - or if that happened in any case? Perhaps Lloyd by himself might've joined them, as he did at the Be-In - Garcia at least was quite enthused by the idea of more collaboration.Light Into Asheshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06943335142002007213noreply@blogger.com
