( ref above post ) I was referring to Ambrose when I suggested he possibly had an accent. I can’t be sure. I definitely recall his automobile accident, in that, he told me why he was in wheel chair. I learned about paralysis through his telling story about the car accident. He wasn’t scared, seemed well-adjusted . His friend , too.
We’d hang out at his home, enjoy a meal or snacks, healthy ones. I recall music playing in the background.Always. it seeemed we would be anticipating an event of some kind. A party w some bands, perhaps, a gathering of people, friends .
The house was square, a single floor, a sufficient size studio for his needs. it seemed to rise up, somehow, as wth risers. I don’t know why.
I’m not sure, but believe his car, a Triumph or MGB, or some incredible British-like sports car, maybe a convertible, was wrecked , mangled, sitting there on the property, near the drive way, parking type of space on the dirt gravel road . I thought this place was in Big Sir , but have no clue as to why or it even accurate. But that’s the story of Ambrose and me. All myl life , decades not recalling who this person named Ambrose was, then to have a friend one of the Hippies from My Shasta - he brought it all back to memory last year ! I am grateful, and was fascinated to learn how he was a radical, beatnik, band manager, of several bands , talented , firy spirit , paralyzed, leader of a cult !it was an amazing journey finally mystery solved !
Grateful Lisa J McNair-Katnichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04154105622647629635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-7284277145824808962018-12-18T13:36:52.520-08:002018-12-18T13:36:52.520-08:00I was only 4 yrs old when I met and became best of...I was only 4 yrs old when I met and became best of friends with Ambrose Hollingsworth. This article about Ace of Cups is a treasure as I knew of his involvement with them and with QMS! When I knew Ambrose, he was in a wheelchair and he and another friend , also in a wheel chair, were my buddies. I remember them talking to me as if I were a little adult. Our friendship was very special to me. Ambrose speerheaded a survivalist group in the CA hills called “ 6 Day School”. Ambrose went to Mt Shasta to save a group of Mountain Hippies and brought the group to “6 Day School”. I remember fondly living in a teepee, being part of this commune where everyone contributed time, energy& love. My Mom and I would take the 5 am shift making oatmeal in this enormous vat! I loved being a part of “the family”. I remember vividly, at 4 or 5 yrs old, what it meant to be part of a bigger thing. Everyone worked well together and following Ambrose Redmoon’s direction! All my or until recently, I couldn’t quite place who this man named Ambrose was. I remembered his wheel chair and having great philosophical talks with him. He was my good friend , probably the first person I considered to be my best friend. I hear he was a bit of a radical and the whole apocalyptic ending of the world thing,. He was on a mission to keep a group of Hippies/ Beatniks alive! I recal many early evenings, talking with Ambrose and his friend , also in a wheel chair . I think he was from Britain? He had an accent as I recall? I’m not sure. Anyway, Ambrose thank you! You taught me about family~ Lisa J McNair-Katnichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04154105622647629635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-50737765389721478932018-10-08T09:58:52.587-07:002018-10-08T09:58:52.587-07:00yes, me Corry!yes, me Corry!Bruno Ceriottihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11902562334118804557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-36959237597268608572018-10-05T13:56:38.611-07:002018-10-05T13:56:38.611-07:00I have been posting QMS updates to Bruno's lis...I have been posting QMS updates to Bruno's list.Fate Musichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05648291938690043423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-55136875832215976302018-10-04T18:18:54.568-07:002018-10-04T18:18:54.568-07:00Great research as always. Tuesday and Wednesday it will be the Quicksilver Messenger Service. Thursday, Friday and Saturday the band will be the Ace of Cups, a charming unit of girls who play and sing well and have some excellent original material, love songs, commentary, and a great anti-war number."
(Ralph Gleason, "Surrealism in the Congress," SF Examiner 10/22/67 p.31)

(These shows were also listed in the 10/20/67 Berkeley Barb "Scenedrome." The 12/1/67 Barb also listed the Ace of Cups & Congress of Wonders at the New Orleans House on Fri Dec. 8, but I think this was a mistaken listing that should've been Fri Dec. 1, as the ad states.)

And one non-appearance, listed in the 9/22/67 Berkeley Barb want-ads:

"Ace of Cups, Flamin' Groovies, Phoenix will not appear at Muir Beach Sept. 24 - Deno & Carlo." To pick a nit, though, it would be more proper to say that the Festival of Growing Things was the last rock concert at the Mt. Tam amphitheater in the 20th century. Michael Nash has successfully revived the venue with his popular Sound Summit events the last few years.cryptdevhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13944617292210813801noreply@blogger.com
