I did a poster promoting the concert but can't find any record of it. It happened, I was there. I followed what was going on in California for several years. There was a rumor that a Wausau guy was in the Steve Miller Band by the name of Curly Cooke. After I graduated I hung around the pool hall wonderin' what to do. All my friends vanished to the coast. I stayed behind to go to art school. One day I see this really far out cat walking down Third St. in downtown Wausau. He had kinda long curly hair and was wearing a leather fringe winter coat. This must have been late 1968 or early 69. Later that day he was in the pool hall and I discover that he is a good friend of the owner Aaron "Oddie" Vangalis. I got to meet Curly and we hung out at Oddie's after hours at night. He onced asked me if I wanted to take guitar lessons and I politely said no. Dumb. Rumor was that Curly had to take a break from the San Francisco scene because of drugs. Just a rumor and in a short while he was back out there and playing again, with other bands.Pat Noirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00302673953521091240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-74842411802029973162017-01-26T03:48:11.779-08:002017-01-26T03:48:11.779-08:00I remember a concert at Grace Cathedral on Nob Hil...I remember a concert at Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill. I do not remember this. I was probably busy that night. Just kidding! This doesn't mean it didn't happen, only that I do not specifically remember that gig".

Richard Personett also remember (and he's 100% certain) that the very first gig of the band was at the Fillmore Auditorium in early December 1966 during one of the Bill Graham's afternoon audition.Bruno Ceriottihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11902562334118804557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-35119629369081625992011-03-18T13:34:24.991-07:002011-03-18T13:34:24.991-07:00Re: January 10-15, 1967: The Matrix, San Francisco...Re: January 10-15, 1967: The Matrix, San Francisco

A curious fact about their show on day 12: Paul Butterfield sat-in on harmonica during their song "Blues With A Feeling"Bruno Ceriottihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11902562334118804557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6667800298422570910.post-13182224068813050082011-03-18T13:31:05.869-07:002011-03-18T13:31:05.869-07:00Re: December ?, 1966: The Forum, Berkeley, CA...&q...Re: December ?, 1966: The Forum, Berkeley, CA..."Miller called on old Madison friends Curley Cooke on guitar and Tim Davis on drums to join him in California.
